“He holds in his hands the depths of the earth and the mightiest of mountains. The sea belongs to Him, for he made it. His hands formed the dry land, too.”
Psalm 95:4-5 NLT
Sometimes, in cultivating my relationship with our Lord, I lose sight of how big and powerful God truly is. Spending time in nature reminds me of the awesomeness of our creator. I love being near the ocean! Sitting on a beach looking toward the horizon and listening to the waves crash on the shore is my happy place. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we had to alter our vacation plans this summer. We decided to trade the ocean for mountains and explore Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. Let me tell you, they did not disappoint. The breathtaking panoramic views of this landscape cannot be properly described by words. Pictures don’t do it justice. As I look out over beautiful, clear lakes and gaze up at the majestic mountains, soaking in the splendor that surrounds me, I feel like a tiny speck in His vast creation. One of my favorite worship songs, How Great Is Our God by Chris Tomlin, played constantly in my mind during our trip.
When I spend time contemplating how unfathomably, great He truly is, the fact that He wants to have an intimate relationship with me becomes even more amazing. Does the God of the universe, Creator of heaven and earth, really care about me, as a unique individual? The answer is Yes! He loves each of us, more than we can ever imagine.
“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow-not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below-indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39 NLT
“What is the price of five sparrows-two copper coins? Yet God does not forget a single one of them. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.” Matthew 10:29-31 NLT
God is madly in love with the beings he created, every one of them, to the point that he knows the number of hairs on my head. (I wonder if he is concerned like I am, that this number seems to be decreasing each year.) The idea that the God who placed each of the millions of stars in the sky calls me His daughter, is a concept that I struggle to comprehend. His omnipotent presence is more than I can wrap my human brain around, but that’s ok, because it is here, in this place, that all I can do is stand in awe and reverence and offer Him my praise.
The splendor of a King, clothed in majesty Let all the Earth rejoice All the Earth rejoice
How great is our God, sing with me How great is our God, and all will see How great, how great is our God
